UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has urged the Myanmar government to pressure the Rohingya refugees to return to honorably and to ensure their safety.
He urged the Security Council on Friday to pressure Myanmar to withdraw millions of Rohingya Muslims who fled the country in military campaigns. News AFP
Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan said that the world's powerful countries must work with the military and civilian leaders of Myanmar to resolve this refugee crisis.
It is to be noted that former United Nations Secretary-General led a consultation commission led by the government of Myanmar to resolve this crisis.
Kafi Annan told reporters after a closed-door meeting with the Security Council, "I urge to adopt a proposal, which has forced Myanmar government to honorably return the refugees (including citizenship) and to ensure their safety."
He said, 'They should not be taken back to any camp. They have to cooperate in rehabilitation.
It is to be noted that since August, more than half a million people in Bangladesh fled to Bangladesh due to the heavy repression of the military in Myanmar's Rakhine state.
